08/12/10 - Tsleil-Waututh Nation official movie premiere of People of the Inlet a huge success!
The Tsleil-Waututh’s official movie premiere of People of the Inlet was a huge success with an estimated 250 people attending the November 22nd evening event, most of whom were friends and neighbors from across the North Shore. The hour long film showcases several of Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s ground-breaking achievements including its land and water stewardship activities, innovative economic development initiatives and the ongoing celebration and expression of Tsleil-Waututh cultural practices. Attendees were treated to freshly popped popcorn as Dennis Thomas, MC for the event, facilitated speeches by Carleen Thomas, Leah George-Wilson, the Deep Cove Heritage Society and film director Allan Jones. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation would like to thank the Deep Cove Heritage Society for helping us share this movie with the wider community.

10/07/10 - Whey-Ah-Wichen Canoe Festival
On the July 10th weekend, First Nation paddling teams will compete in traditional canoe races on Burrard Inlet along the foreshore of Cates Park/Whey-Ah-Wichen. The Whey-Ah-Wichen Canoe Festival (in memory of Cookie Thomas) is hosted by the Tsleil-Waututh community and is open to the public. Festivities will begin at 11:00 am and continue until 5:00 pm on both July 10th and 11th.

"Living Proof: The Essential Data-Collection Guide for Indigenous Use-and-Occupancy Map Surveys" by Terry N. Tobias has garnered much excitement and acclaim in recent months. A case-study on the Tsleil-Waututh Nation is the subject of the first chapter, and the Nation is featured in subsequent parts of the book. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation and BC Parks are pleased to announce the release of the Say Nuth Khaw Yum Provincial Park Plan. Developed by Tsleil-Waututh in collaboration with BC Parks and Port Metro Vancouver, the Plan provides management direction for over 6,500 hectares of shoreline, forest and mountain terrain that surround the serene waters of Indian Arm just outside of Vancouver.
